BUM LIFE: A Sluggish Beginning

Vacation is a trendy word for rest. Usually “Rest Time” is only good for 2-3 no-labor-days or in schools they have it max to 30days. What comes next to vacation is what 20ish individuals call the BUM LIFE, where you get to have your unlimited no-school-work-days, wakeup-late-with-brunch-serve, 24/7 internet surfing and anything you want to do! Isn’t that the nicest music you’ve heard in your whole life? But when will you put a deadline on this slothful living? When is the right time to walk out of this man-made-heaven?

Who are those people living this kind of life? College Graduates seeking for a vacation after a 4-year-struggle on their studies, unemployed, terminated workers/ employees, slacker, couch potato, rich kids, sick people and bludger or maybe anyone who just wanted to get out of their restless life. But I'd like to focus on graduates.

What’s the best part of having this kind of living?

You can take your biggest break EVER. With a well-planned life, after graduation, some goes straight to the real world and work their asses out to earn. Some are leaving for other country to work or to have vacation first and then work. But most are still thinking where to go, what to do next and where to enjoy the vacation before going to the stressful life of the real world. (Well, apparently, I belong to the MOST group. haha)

They can enjoy the things they sacrificed because of school. Whether you’re in the medical field, media, corporate and other fields that are available, you will agree with me that you did sacrificed at least one vacation because of school works, On the job training and other stuff, Or you’re one of the students who were not able to enjoy any of their vacation because they’re having their 1st term final exams a day before the 2nd term. (What the EFFF, right?)

You can have a long term relationship with your hobbies. Travel around the country, beach vacation, bar hopping, net surfing, movie marathons, food trips or just a plain-moment-with-your-bed the whole day, you can do whatever you wanted and wished to do. (Hey this is the real example of ‘Sky is the limit’)

You can plan for your next move. If you have plans on attending seminars, auditions you can do it, and take note, you have no deadlines at all. You can join all the contests if you want. You can apply on your dream job or look for jobs in the city. Just like what Carrie Bradshaw did. (Well, if you’re a rich kid with a CEO daddy, you can ask him to hire you in his company. whenever you're ready. Oh, good Lord!)

What are the downsides of this kind of living?

You’ll get jealous during paydays.
You have no work, No allowance, and you can’t even afford your usual coffee. The only thing you can do is watch your friends earn, earn and earn. You have no work, you only ask your parents for money, yeah? (Ouch! Okay I admit it! Haha)

You can say goodbye to your hobbies day by day. Well, who can meet the expense of going to malls, party all night and buy goodies like shoes and bag if you don’t have any work? It’s a bit embarrassing to ask your parents to buy you the bling because it’s your duty to do it so. (Well, you’re lucky if you still have the dosh!)

You’ll get too lazy to work. Well if you are used to something, sometimes it’s really hard to just leave it all away. With the life where you don’t get to do anything at all, who can even get away from it? (It seems legit!)

The work you want is already filled. That’s the time you have to find a new work or vacancies and sometimes, that’s the hardest part. (Oh no! better look for alternatives)

You have no place to party anymore. You’re friends are all working, so you can’t go to clubs and beaches alone, right? Who can drive you to the city? Who can go to the mall with you? Busy people around, holla! (So you better look for a job, you know?)

Trying such life or just wanting an extension on your vacation? no worries, as long as you know the right time to stop. Maybe you can stay on vacation for 1-2 years max. A year is enough, sometimes others work on the 1st year and then the second one is for you to think where road you’ll continue to drive or if you have plans on going back to school to take your second degree, then it’ll be the perfect time to set a deadline for your bum life. Remember, working hard can be tiring, that’s why a vacation is a must but it also has limitations. Don’t let your dream vacation thwart you from the world you’ve been working hard for since day 1. :)
